40 days of Positive Perspective
I was reminded yesterday that today would be Ash Wednesday. To be honest with you, I truly have not fully participated in the observance of Ash Wednesday or Lent since I was about 19. Raised in a very Catholic household, I gauge this to be pretty bad. It got me thinking about how I would approach it this time around. Beginning to focus on the true reason for which we even have this tradition; I realized I wanted to use this time to reflect, regroup, recharge and mainly APPRECIATE what I have.
The 40 days of lent are a representation of the sacrifices made by Jesus Christ, along with his death and resurrection. Its supposed help us understand and appreciate what we have. I imagined my self in the desert for 40 days with no food and i thought... "WOW, I probably wouldn't survive long". I'm thankful that I've never had to sacrifice in that manner and it made me want to take the time to appreciate more of what I have, simply based on the sheer thought that someday I could easily not have what I have. I know this seems like such a simple concept but it really had me thinking all day.
We have so many wonderful things at our fingertips making life so easy breezy for us that we take a lot of things for granted. So many missed opportunities, adventures, real life social interactions and relationships that we don't fully explore due to this lack of appreciation or thought that it can be done another day or time. The thing about that is, that other "day" isn't really guaranteed and we don't really know what "time" we have. It really made me want to take my time and be present; trying my best to appreciate what I have going on and so much more that I can have going on.
Keeping all of this in mind I organized the things that I felt are important to me and deserve more appreciation and dedication based on the positivity it adds to my life.
One of those things is leading a healthy life style. At one point I was 205 lbs feeling super disappointed about the lack of effort I put in myself. When I started eating better and being more active I automatically felt happier and more appreciative of everything.
Recently, I haven't be making as much of an effort to do that due to convenience, laziness and basically comfort. That doesn't make me feel too great; so I decide I would use this time during Lent as a kick-starter and this blog to help hold me accountable; committing to 40 days of healthier eating and personalized training. I don't know the real direction in which I plan to go as I share but I feel this is the best platform to do so.
I'm very fortunate to have an awesome gym at home and a very knowledgeable personal trainer as my boyfriend and roommate. I basically have no excuse. I have a goal in mind of what I want to achieve and I know I can with real effort and dedication. This will be the beginning of that. Adam will be officially training me for the first time and I'm really looking forward to that as well.
