Zumba Time!!

My favorite work out days are the days I can add ZUMBA to my routine. Usually Wednesday and Thursday, but I do try to squeeze in a class on Monday as well. I have been doing Zumba from day 1 of my fitness journey about 4 years ago. At that time I was a member of Total Woman. I loved all of the classes they offered especially Zumba and kickboxing. ... Man, I really miss that Kick boxing class. Anyhow, I was hesitant about taking the class because I am not a very coordinated person. I like to dance and i'm decent at it but my coordination is horrible. I didn't want to mess any one up. :/ But I took the chance. Not something I do often but, I'm trying. After taking that first initial class I fell in LOVE. The music, the dance moves, the ladies. you can be at any fitness level and truly benefit and enjoy the class. The music is a mix of Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia, Punta, Bachata, Samba, Reggae, Hip Hop, & Pop. The music selection varies depending on the instructor you get. The dance moves are FUN and SEXY. The best part is the energy from all the ladies. Everyone that is there, to have a good time. 

For the past two years I have been a member of 24 Hour Fitness and I am a regular at the Burbank gym; it's my favorite and the closest to home. The Zumba classes at 24 hours are superb. The instructor you MUST TRY is Lisa Marie. Not only does she have the coolest,hottest, & newest dance moves but she makes you WORK. She is an awesome dancer and really gets you out of your comfort zone. She has a very cool and inviting personality, perfect to instruct the variety of ladies in our classes. Like these ladies.... haha.

I highly suggest that you ladies and gents try a Zumba class the next time you can. I made a list of the benefits you get from doing Zumba... Maybe that will motivate you, after all ... people who dance often are likely to have a higher self esteem and a more positive outlook on life. 

Here's a picture a picture of me once completing one of my Zumba classes. I'm telling you, it gets REAL. 

  1. YOU BURN A TON OF CALORIES: Depending on the intensity of the class you can burn anywhere from 500-1000 calories per class. Yup. I've tracked it myself. It is one of the most effective classes. 
  2. YOU'R WHOLE BODY GETS A WORK OUT: Your moving, shaking, jumping, squatting, waving your arms around and  getting down. You use your entire body when dancing in Zumba benefiting you overall in helping tone and tighten your muscles. 
  3. IMPROVED CARDIOVASCULAR FITNESS: The high intensity dance moves gets your heart pumping . Strengthening your heart and increasing the amount of energy you're able to produce when exercising. 
  4. SUITS ALL FITNESS LEVELS: It really doesn't matter whether you're just starting out or an avid gym go-er. You can adapt to the dance moves at your own pace depending on your fitness level. Just have fun with it. 
  5. IT'S SO MUCH FUN: The great thing is that it's such a fun class that you don't even feel like you're exercising. It just feels like a big fun party you didn't have to wear heels or makeup to. If you don't prefer to work out on your own it is a great way to get fit with others also. The friendly environment motivates you to come back for more.   
  6. BETTER COORDINATION: I have always been terrible with this, but I can definitely tell you that my coordination and dance skills have improved since taking these classes. Because of the fast paced dance moves involving your entire body you gain a better understanding of how to control the way that your body moves. 
  7. IMPROVED MENTAL FITNESS: With this fun filled work out the stress just melts away, giving you a boost and making you feel happier. Your happy mood sticks with you giving you a positive effect on your overall mood. 
  8. MOTIVATION: If your are lacking motivation with your work outs, Zumba is a great class for you to try. The music and the atmosphere is constantly inspiring you and dancing along with others encourages you when you're starting to feel a bit tired. You don't wanna be that person to just quite in the middle of class. 

I hope this motivates some of you to try a class out. You wont regret it.
